Wife is a pain; dad was HVAC tech and no one compares

It can be difficult marrying the daughter of an HVAC technician.

This probably isn’t a problem that too many people have, but I feel like I should start a support group for the handful of men who understand where I’m coming from.

It’s not so easy to live with someone who expects indoor air temperature and air quality perfection at all times. Apparently, growing up with a certified heating, cooling, and ventilation technician will vastly skew your expectations for residential indoor air quality control. At least, it definitely has for my wife. Her dad wasn’t just a regular HVAC tech – he was a truly passionate heating and cooling artist. If he wasn’t on the job, fixing other residential Heating and cooling systems, her dad was guaranteed to be at home fiddling with their own indoor air quality equipment. After being raised in a house where the HVAC system was cared for like a newborn baby, nothing is good enough for her. Besides that, no HVAC technician is good enough for her. Every single day she complains about the indoor air temperature and air quality in our house. I try my best to keep up with the thermostat programming, the air filter changes, and the professional duct cleaning… But she’s never satisfied. She wants the heating and cooling system to have a full-blown inspection every month, it seems. You know, I actually would pay the money for a monthly HVAC maintenance appointment, if that would truly make her happy. The problem is, she’s convinced that every HVAC technician we hire is a quack or an idiot. I’m out of HVAC companies to call, and she’s never going to let someone other than dear old dad touch her precious heating and cooling system, anyways.
